KIDS & TEENS
Sick of washing wet or soiled clothing or bedding?
Heard too many times that “they will grow out of it”
Tried laxatives without success?
Worried about your child and unsure where to seek help?
Our highly trained pelvic health physiotherapists have extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of paediatric bladder and bowel concerns including:
- Bedwetting that persists beyond 5 years old
- Daytime urinary incontinence
- Faecal incontinence (soiling/poo leakage)
- Constipation
- Recurrent urinary tract infections
Although behavioural problems are often associated, it is exceptionally rare for bladder/bowel issues in children to be caused by behavioural problems. It can seem like they are lazy and don’t care about sitting in wee or poo, but in fact their sensation may be absent or inconsistent and confusing. Some behavioural problems stem from the bladder or bowel problems, and even improve after toileting management!
Research consistently shows that punishing a child or getting angry at them for wee or poo accidents is more likely to make the situation worse that better.
What to Expect
We ensure that we will take the time to listen to your concerns and take them seriously. We understand that parents can be at the end of their tether and quite frustrated when it comes to continence concerns with their child as they have hit multiple dead ends when it comes to advice and management. We will provide reassurance and encouragement during our thorough assessment of your child utilising non-invasive methods such as real time ultrasound and we will then work with you and your child to develop a management plan that fits in with your schedule and life to ensure timely and effective outcomes.
Our paediatric continence physiotherapist is Ocean Kabiwka.
